Though adoption may seem to be a heaven sent answer, those considering this alternative must realize from the beginning that adoption is far from an easy process. Adopting a child can be a long and complex process; it can takes months of being tied up in red tape before arrangements are finalized.

While adoption is a lengthy and complicated process, it is really the key to matching children in need of a home with those who would love to have children. The intricate process of adoption may appear frustrating at times, but those who are thinking of adoption must realize that the process is meant to be for the best interest of the child involved.

There are three main roads to adoption, International Adoption, Domestic Public Adoption, and Domestic Private Adoption. Each of these has their difficulties and rewards, and the course you take is entirely a personal choice.

International Adoption is probably the most difficult adoption because of International Adoption Laws. Often the children will reside in an orphanage and have either been abandoned by their parents, or one or both parents are deceased. Frequently these children are ill in some way or suffer from malnutrition. Before deciding on International Adoption it is advised that you contact a professional adoption agency and ask them about your choices.

Domestic Public Adoption is another alternative, but it is also mandated by strict laws. Most adoptions in the United States and Canada concern government agencies. For more information about Domestic Public Adoption you can contact the Department of Social Services for your state.

Domestic Private Adoption operates in much the same as Domestic Public Adoption with the exception that the adopted parents know one or more of the birth parents. Some people prefer to know the birth mother of their adopted child, while others want to remain completely anonymous as is usually the practice in closed adoptions.

The decision to adopt is a personal one, but there are many counselors and agencies available to aid those thinking of adoption to come to a decision and help them through the long process of making their dreams come true. If you have come to a point in your life where you feel that adding a child to your home would be appropriate, take a look at the adoption alternative.
