In Reclined Position On Back

The advantage to this position is that the doctors and nurses have more access to help aid

in the delivery of your baby.

The disadvantages are that  your labor tends to be longer and more painful. While in this

position the pain in your back can be tremendous. To help ease the pain and take the

pressure off of your back, change position to one side or the other every once in a while.

Sitting

Sitting with one knee bent and the other leg relaxed helps your uterus to drop forward,

improving the blood supply to the contracting muscles and easing pressure on your

diaphragm.

Squatting

This childbirth technique has been used for centuries in many tribal cultures, and today it

has become popular amongst many cultures. This position causes gravity to help aid in

the delivery of your baby; in addition it helps to take pressure of your spine which can

become very painful during labor and delivery.

Kneeling On Your Hands & Knees

This is another position that enables gravity to work in your favor; also it helps a great

deal to reduce the pain of back labor which occurs when the baby is positioned with the

back of his head pressing against the rear of your pelvis.

HypnoBirthing

This is a form of giving birth that makes use of hypnosis to achieve maximum relaxation,

comfort, and relief during childbirth. This is a natural form of pain relief that allows you

to remain alert during the birth process while at the same time enables you to be more

relaxed that you might be otherwise.

Water Birth

Though giving birth is still not an accepted form of conventional childbirth, its popularity

has grown significantly over the past few years. It is the most gentlest of birthing

experiences for you and your baby. If you choose this method, you will enter a tub of 90

to 100 degrees. The baby is still monitored with an underwater Doppler and when it come

time to give birth you can choose to move to a bed, or continue to do so in the water. As

soon as the baby is born he is gently brought to the surface of the water where he will

begin let out a cry and begin to breathe.

Cesarean Section

Most often a Cesarean is done only as a last alternative and for medical reasons. This

form of childbirth takes place in a sterilized operating room. Often an epidural is used as

an anesthesia so that the patient can be awake for the birth of her child, but there are

some situations that may call for general anesthesia. This is usually the case if it the

cesarean is the result of complications in the pregnancy or birthing process.

The childbirth technique you choose will greatly depend on the form of pain relief you

and your doctor decides on. For instance, if you choose an epidural, many of these

techniques will be unavailable to you.

Talk to your healthcare provider about the different techniques available for childbirth

and which he recommends for you.
