Your body requires a higher level of vitamins while pregnant, with this in mind your doctor may want to prescribe you a vitamin supplement with a high level of iron and calcium. Another great way to get extra vitamins into your system is to eat fortified foods such as orange juice that is high in calcium and cereals fortified with vitamins. Another very important supplement for a healthy pregnancy is Folic Acid. If you are trying to conceive, begin taking Folic Acid at least a month or two before you try to become pregnant and continue throughout the early weeks of your pregnancy.
Some natural sources of Folic Acid include orange juice, green leafy vegetables, beans, peanuts, broccoli, asparagus, peas, lentils, and enriched grain products. Talk to your Healthcare Provider about the benefits of Folic Acid. The basics of a well balanced diet during pregnancy include: 6 to 11 servings of grain products 3 to 5 servings of vegetables 2 to 4 servings of fruits 4 to 6 servings of milk and milk products 3 to 4 servings of meat and protein foods 6 to 8 glasses of water, fruit juice, or milk Limited servings of fatty foods and sweets For prime health during your pregnancy, and to watch the amount of weight you gain, it is a good idea to limit the amount of sweets, soda pop or any other foods that are high in calories and low in nutrition. In addition, always consult with your doctor before trying any medicines or herbal supplement that your doctor has not prescribed.
